Daniel Hornstein

Law Clerk

Daniel Hornstein has devoted his legal career to the pursuit of social justice. Guided by the conviction that everyone’s rights deserve protection, his approach to lawyering reflects the belief that a client whose rights are vindicated is a client empowered, a claim that succeeds for one client can set the terms of redress for others facing the same harm, and an institution held to account is an institution reformed. He regards civil rights litigation as an essential means of holding power to account and ensuring that constitutional and statutory protections are not merely upheld in theory, but enforced in practice.

Daniel’s background encompasses direct legal services, community advocacy, and academic research in law and political theory. Throughout his career, he has worked with individuals and communities who are too often underserved by the legal system, including low-income tenants, immigrants, and those adversely affected by the criminal legal system. This work has strengthened his commitment to resisting unjust systems and supporting those most in need of representation.

He holds a B.A. Honours from Queen’s University in Political Science, an M.A. in Political Theory and Comparative Politics and a joint B.C.L./J.D. from McGill University, and an LL.M. in Legal Theory from New York University School of Law. He has passed the New York Uniform Bar Examination and is awaiting admission to the New York Bar.

At the Law Office of Fred Lichtmacher, P.C., Daniel brings rigorous research, precise writing, and an earnest empathy for the enduring grievances of the clientele. He is committed to ensuring that every client receives the diligent and principled support they deserve.
